A resin bound surface is one where the aggregate has been mixed in with the resin. This is then applied to the surface area and a trowel is used to flatten and smooth out the area. Depths can vary and range from 12 – 24mm.
One of the most obvious differences between a resin bound and a resin bonded surface is that resin bound surfaces are porous and configured for Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS).
Resin bonded surfaces differ greatly in that the resin is applied first followed by a loose aggregate which is applied on top. This is done quickly as the resin has a short curing time and different aggregates can be combined to achieve a unique effect. Any loose stones are swept away leaving behind a surface with the appearance of loose gravel. Thickness is usually governed by aggregate size.
There is a whole slew of reasons which make resin a great choice for both domestic and commercial use. First, it is permeable (resin bound) which allows water to drain through preventing puddles from forming. Unlike tarmac, it won’t soften, freeze or fade and can have a far longer service life when compared to tarmac. It is aesthetically pleasing with far more customisable options available.
Very little maintenance is required to maintain a resin surface – just a regular brush and an occasional clean down with a jet washer. The ‘heat island’ effect is reduced also, this is where tarmac, concrete and asphalt surfaces store heat preventing the soil underneath from breathing. This can have a negative impact on the surface’s longevity. Resin bound surfaces can also provide natural filtration as rain water seeps through.
Whatever you want your new surface to look like, Resin Wize can undoubtedly facilitate. The great thing about resin is that it is available in an enormous array of colours and customers can even choose to mix several aggregates together to create unique looking styles. No two resin surfaces ever have to look the same, not with the number of options available. Plus, we also provide a range of finishes too to give your driveway or patio a stunning aesthetic you’ll be dying to show off to your friends and family.
